A performance-event by Hilde Elbers. Every human being has a deep need to bond and belong, and has the fear of being rejected. In A Manual for Walking, Hilde confronts us with constraining expectations with which we put ourselves under constant pressure. The perfect pose, the desired answer, the good mother, the successful employee, the sexy lover… We have to perform, go on, be strong, move forward. We learn flawlessly to suppress any spontaneous impulses and keep everything under control. With all that "having-to" feelings of isolation and loneliness are lurking.
Can we start over? Let go of that which does not serve us? Be unprejudiced? Move from closed to open? And try to reconnect to ourselves and with others? Recover together from the loneliness that has been sinking on us like a thick fog?
